Stuff We Want: GaraDry GaraDam Garage Threshold, A Speed Bump for Rainwater

Searches for "vegas flooding" have been climbing since last night. If you're dealing with flooding right now, follow your local officials and stay out of moving water. This post is for the calmer cleanup-and-prep part afterward.

Here's a desert-town truth: when it finally rains, it rains like it's been saving up, and a lot of that water goes looking for the easiest way inside, which is usually the gap under your garage door.

Our pick is the GaraDam garage door threshold from GaraDry. It's a 2-inch-high strip of heavy-duty PVC that you glue down right where the door closes, so the door seals against it and creates a small ridge between the driveway and your stuff.

GaraDry says it keeps out water, wind-driven rain, leaves, dust, vermin, and debris. That's a long list for one strip, and the vermin part alone might be worth it if you've ever met a garage cricket.

The kit is 12 feet 3 inches long and 9 inches wide, with GaraDry's own adhesive included and full-color instructions for a DIY install. The listing says the PVC won't degrade with long contact with water the way rubber can, it's made for all seasons, and it carries a 5-year product warranty.

To be clear about the job description: 2 inches is a speed bump, not a levee. It's for runoff, puddling, and blowing rain, not a flooded street.

Who it's for: homeowners with a garage that takes on water every storm, desert dwellers who get a year of rain in one afternoon, and anyone tired of sweeping leaves out of the garage.

Skip it if you rent and can't glue things to the slab, or your garage sees water deeper than a couple of inches. You need real flood barriers and a plan for that.

The verdict: hand-picked for the boring fix that pays off every storm. Glue it once and let the rain argue with it.
