Stuff We Want: EcoFlow DELTA 3 Power Station, the Fridge Keeps Its Cool When the Grid Doesn't

Southern California spent this week under Red Flag Warnings, and Southern California Edison used Public Safety Power Shutoffs to keep wind-blown lines from sparking fires. CBS Los Angeles reported more than 52,000 customers in LA County and 57,000 in Ventura County facing shutoffs as of Friday morning, October 16.

Shutoffs are a safety call, and the first rule is simple: follow your utility's warnings and your local evacuation guidance. Sign up for updates at sce.com/psps, and if officials tell you to leave, leave. Gear comes second.

But for the hours you're home and the power is off, the EcoFlow DELTA 3 Portable Power Station is the kind of backup that makes a shutoff feel like an inconvenience instead of a scramble. It holds 1024Wh and puts out 1800W, and EcoFlow says it can run 13 appliances at once.

The headline trick is recharge speed. EcoFlow lists a full charge in 56 minutes from the wall (80% in about 30), and up to 500W of solar input if you add panels. That matters with PSPS, because SCE often sends notices days ahead. You get a heads-up, you top it off, you're ready.

It runs on LiFePO4 cells rated for 4000 cycles to 80%, and the battery pack is rated IP65 against splashes and dust. If one unit isn't enough, the DELTA 3 series can expand up to 5kWh with EcoFlow's extra batteries.

In the box: the power station, an AC charging cable, the manual, and EcoFlow's 5-year customer service.

Who it's for: households in high fire-risk areas, people who work from home, and anyone with a fridge full of groceries they'd like to keep.

Skip it if you only need to keep a phone alive. A good power bank covers that for a lot less bulk.

The verdict: hand-picked for PSPS season. Charge it when the notice lands, keep the fridge and the Wi-Fi going, and let the official warnings do the deciding.
